Started in ……….. Leonard Cheshire Disability and Development Programme (LCDDP) is located in Rawalpindi and functions as an outreach centre for disability information. Key activities also include partnerships, collaborations with government and donors. Sensitization and capacity building comprise other areas of work. LCDDP’s future plans include promotion of people with disability based organizations and disability campaigns on a country wide level.

 

Tamir Cheshire Community Programme’s (TCCP) Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programmes at Faisalabad were initiated as early as 2002 and have started to reap positive results. Its programme interventions include:

  • Access to primary education
  • Computer Training
  • Referrals of people with disabilities to appropriate government hospitals and rehabilitation centres
  • Medical camps
  • Micro and home industries for women
  • Sewing centres
  • Employment for young women

TCCP’s education based initiatives has been equally successful. In 2006 an inclusive education programme started operation. In the past year alone, TCCP activities enabled 102 children with disabilities to be retained in mainstream schools.

Leonard Cheshire Disability Resource Centre in Mansehra started as a response to the 2005 earthquake that devastated Pakistan administered Kashmir and the North West Frontier Province. More than 87,000 people lost their lives The Mansehra DRC partners with Community Appraisal and Motivation Program (CAMP) and offers rehabilitation and referral services for people with disabilities, prosthetic limbs, orthopedic braces wheelchairs, physiotherapy and psycho-social care.
